Santana Sent South to Texas in 1st Trade of Season
Texas Hitmen owner Chris Mongogna has been working the phones over the past few days
to correct mistakes he made on draft day. “We weren’t able to devote
our full attention to our draft board on draft day, so we are trying to make up for it now”, Mongogna said.
Mongogna traded away the NL leader in RBI’s, Carlos Lee, sophomore phenom second baseman, Ian Kinsler and coveted
free agent signee Adam LaRoach to the Belleville Knights for Fantasy stud pitcher Johan Santana, Veteran pitcher Randy Johnson
and 2b Robinson Cano. “Our Pitching staff has been in shambles. Two of the guys we were counting on in our bullpen have been benched by their teams and a starting pitcher
has been moved to the bullpen. We were just all over the place. Johan and Randy give us some much needed stability. We hated
to move the guys we did but we could not pass up on getting the best pitcher over the past 3 years and a guy with 5 Cy Young’s
on his mantle.
Knight Owner Keith
Lauf said Lee would move into the lineup, while Kinsler might stay down in the minors until needed by the big club.
Mongogna
also sent two 2008 late round draft picks for two waiver claims in this week’s waiver draft. Added to their own claim the Hitmen had 3 of the 8 picks in the draft.
They claimed Benji Molina to replace injured Mike Piazza at catcher, Gil Meche to add more stability to their pitching
staff, and Ty Wiggington to try to fill the shoes of the recently traded Lee.
